Simple Selections: Background Select #2

To take the selection process to the next level I found this picture of a far hairier animal (via the new Adobe Stock feature) just to test how good the process is. Not surprisingly, the accuracy of the selection process falls over a bit here - the dog's coat is very fine and its color and tone slides from black to light grey quite acutely to the edges of the coat making it hard for the software to identify.
If the dog had been photographed against a white background the AI selection process would have been more successful. For greater accuracy, it often helps to:
1: Duplicate the background layer
2: Change the duplicated layer's contrast using Levels (Ctrl/Cmd + L).
3: Try again using the contrastier layer as a template for the selection process only. Don't forget to save the selection (in case you need it again) and delete the contrasty layer.
