Getting started – an overview of Azure Monitor
Azure Monitor is a special kind of resource in Azure that doesn’t need to be deployed. In other words, it’s enabled from when you start creating your first subscription and access your Azure environment. By default, Azure Monitor doesn’t incur any costs – it’s just there to help you aggregate data about your resources and serve basic information about their performance, reliability, and availability. If you want to dive deeper into the service and leverage more advanced scenarios, Azure Monitor offers a bunch of additional capabilities, such as visualization and analysis tools or even AI-enhanced operations (AIOps).
Important note
Under the hood, Azure Monitor is a time series database for storing numeric data from resources deployed within your subscriptions. Depending on the complexity of your scenario, it may either stay like this or be extended with additional capabilities.
