Painting a mosaic using the Tweak tool
In this recipe we will use the Tweak tool as a paint brush to paint over a collection of objects that form a mosaic pattern. This is an example of how to come close to brush painting in Inkscape.
How to do it...
The following steps will demonstrate how to create a mosaic pattern:
1. Select the Rectangle tool (F4 or R) and create a 500x500 px rectangle. Set its fill to none, stroke to black, stroke width to 3, and duplicate it (Ctrl + D).
2. Apply the Voronoi pattern to the duplicate by going to Extensions | Generate from Path | Voronoi pattern... Set the Average size of cell (px) to 30, Size of Border (px) to 50, and press the Apply button.
3. Convert the pattern to objects by going to Object | Pattern | Pattern to Objects or by using Shift + Alt +I. The result will be straight lines as separate objects.
4. Combine the objects into a single path (Ctrl + K).
5. Add the rectangle to the selection (click on its border while holding down Shift). Do a Path...
