Summary
In this chapter, we saw several exciting uses for biometrics in our world today. We reviewed how biometrics play a significant role in enforcing the law and protecting children. We stressed the importance of providing standards to ensure interoperability. We then reviewed the ways biometrics help scientists identify individuals during a forensic examination.
We also took a look at how massive government-run biometric databases assist officials during surveillance and in monitoring large venues. We also saw the various ways that biometrics help monitor the prison population. We compared how biometrics can control access to assets, buildings, and computer systems. Finally, we saw a glimpse of some newer uses for biometrics, such as detecting face masks and the appeal of paying your dinner bill with your face or fingerprint.
