Troubleshooting runners


In a way, runners are a little easier to troubleshoot than other types of modules. For instance, even though they run on the Master, they don't need the salt-master service to be restarted to pick up new changes. In fact, unless you're using the local client, you don't actually have to have the salt-master service running.

Working with the salt-master service

If you are using the local client, and you try to issue a command without the salt-master service running, you will get an error that looks like this:
