Merging frames with the Pathfinder tool
When you are working in InDesign, sometimes you want to use a frame that’s not a square, an ellipse, or a polygon. You might just want a differently shaped frame. Many people don’t realize it, but InDesign’s frames are actually just vector shapes, and as such, you can use the Pathfinder tool on them in the same way you use it when working with vector shapes in Adobe Illustrator.
The Pathfinder tool lets you combine frames together, punch holes in one frame using another, create shapes from overlapping areas, and much more. In this recipe, we will take a look at some common uses of the Pathfinder tool for creating interesting frame shapes.
Getting ready
