Dos and don’ts
Before exploring what’s next at Microsoft in this area, let’s reflect on these failures and associated challenges. Every difficult experience provides invaluable learning – let’s try to think of them as positively oriented opportunities, with the addition of safe and hard-learned recommendations to succeed with MDM.
If I were to lead an MDM implementation today, with all my past experiences, I would keep a few important perspectives in mind:
- Having an ultimate business case from the start – or better, two connected yet different cases, not just one. This is something like the best practice many convey about data products – you create one product to start with, but you have a connected next case in mind, with a high reuse of what has been done for the first implementation. I would recommend a similar approach for MDM, with both business cases having a high impact on the business, yet moderate in size of the work...
