When managing computer devices, there are two widely used approaches. The first approach is the peer-to-peer (P2P) model. In this model, the control of computer systems is decentralized. Basically, there is no single system calling the shots. Each device is its own boss, capable of allowing or denying permissions to the resources residing on or attached to the device. You’ll see this management approach used in many Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) environments due to its easy setup and management.
However, as you start to think more about computing in enterprise environments that can contain large numbers of devices that need to share data, P2P ceases to be a viable option.
