Coding the Bat class
The simple Pong bat example was a good way of introducing the basics of classes. Classes can be simple and short, like the preceding Bat
class, but they can also be longer and more complicated and contain other objects made from other classes. Furthermore, there are additional new concepts regarding classes that we will learn about. We will also see and code a constructor function that sets up our instances ready for use.
When it comes to making games, there are a few vital things missing from the hypothetical Bat
class. It might be fine for all these private member variables and public functions, but how will we draw anything? Our Pong bat needs a sprite, and in some games, our classes will also need a texture. Furthermore, we need a way to control the rate of animation of all our game objects, just like we did with the bee and the clouds in the previous project.
