vSphere Data Protection

VMware consolidated vSphere Data Protection editions that were available previously. With vSphere 6, all customers having a valid Standard, Enterprise, or Enterprise Plus subscription are eligible to use the Linux-based backup appliance. The product enables to provide up to 8 TB of storage, deduplicated by proven EMC Avamar technology. Another benefit of using the most recent product version is that it comes with agents for Microsoft products, including:

• Microsoft SQL Server (also clusters)

• Microsoft Exchange

• Microsoft Sharepoint

These agents are making it easier to backup the virtual machines running the applications mentioned above more efficient and reliable. During restore tasks, it is possible to select particular SQL databases or exchange boxes, instead of restoring the whole virtual machine. Using this, customers have the ability to reduce restore times.
