Alternate Name
There is one other element that can be added to the existing data derived from the spreadsheet. That element is called the “alternate name”.
It is optional to add an alternate name; it has no necessary connection to the spreadsheet. Strategically, though, alternate name is very important.
There are many reasons why including an alternate name is strategically important. The first is that if you lift data from multiple spreadsheets, you’ll likely find that there is no coordination of the naming conventions used by different organizations. It is expected that when data arrives at the intermediate database, it arrives with a multitude of name structures.
It is very useful, though, for the organization doing the data management to have all their spreadsheets similarly named. The alternate name allows this coordination to take place.
