The Intermediate Database
The output from the previous step results in the creation of what is termed the “intermediate database”. For all practical purposes, the intermediate database is a working database that is not meant to hold the final output of corporate data. In a way, the intermediate database holds “raw” data.
The data held in the intermediate database serves as input for two different functions. One of those is the creation of the mnemonic database, which holds strictly metadata. The second is the actual corporate data. The mnemonic database holds the metadata that was pulled from the spreadsheets, while the corporate database holds the actual values of data from the spreadsheets.
