Reviewing an RTM template sample
Let us look at sample RTM matrix data. You can use various RTM tools available in the market based on the nature and complexity of your project release. In our case, I am using a simple Excel spreadsheet, as shown here. This matrix is a simplified version of a more complex RTM. An RTM for a complex project will span multiple columns and rows and does not fit here as a screenshot. You can add more columns and capture details related to BRD, FDD, and so on, and keep the columns hidden. When you see a failed test case, you can unhide the columns to get details from one single document.

Based on this data and using test case artifacts, we can create a sample traceability chart, as shown next. There are many tools available that can help you with creating complex and more sophisticated traceability matrices:
