It seems silly to say it, but technology is fundamental to the role of the CIO. This is the core element to ensure that the IT strategy is comprehensive and integrated into the business objectives. The CIO must work with the business and drive innovation in their digital journey. And in doing this, the CIO must be articulate and able to translate tech jargon into business value.
The CIO must spend time building their understanding of the current IT environment and knowing what the plans are. This doesn’t mean that this is an action taken just with the CIO’s direct reports; instead, it requires extensive business engagement.
