Chapter 4. Assessment
Assessment means different things to different people. Some think of it as a series of quizzes and tests. Others tend to think of it as essays and projects. Others even think of a portfolio that reflects all the work that a student has done in a course. What do all these ideas have in common? All require the student to perform in some way that reflects the course goals and objectives. Finally, assessments are ways to determine whether the course outcomes have been met. While many people tend to look at assessment with a certain level of trepidation, negative emotions are not necessary; in fact, they are counterproductive. In this chapter, we discuss how to create assessments in Moodle and cover the ways to make assessment a positive cornerstone in the overall learning experience.
