We've covered a lot of ground in this chapter. We started looking at a couple of problems with the earlier versions of the Java platform and how the language didn't really provide sufficient features to solve them. We then learned how the Java platform has been modularized, what the modules are, and how to browse and get information about them. We then wrapped up with how the new modular Java platform has effectively solved the two major problems we began the chapter with.
In the next chapter, you'll put these concepts into practice by wiring in the Java platform modules into the address book application and getting familiar with the process of using platform modules and APIs in your custom Java code.
