Getting started
This chapter assumes that you have some experience with graphic design applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, GIMP, Sketch, and so on. If you aren't already familiar with such an application, you should consider finding an application that supports vector illustrations. There are many applications that are raster based, that is, you control each pixel in the resulting image. Because the mobile landscape is changing quickly with respect to the device's screen size and resolution, it's safer to develop your images in a resolution-independent manner so that you can generate new images at specific resolutions without the loss of detail.

If you've heard of bitmap images, it is important to know that these are raster images.
