Using RSLinx Classic and FactoryTalk Linx

RSLinx Classic and FactoryTalk Linx are the communication server applications in the Rockwell Automation product line. The original RSLinx communication server evolved over time into two separate products:

RSLinx Classic
FactoryTalk Linx (formally known as RSLinx Enterprise)

FactoryTalk Linx is typically packaged with the FactoryTalk HMI software.

FactoryTalk Linx is an HMI communications gateway that also provides the following properties:

Diagnostics
Security
Auditability
Redundancy

FactoryTalk Linx collects data from Rockwell Automation controllers and delivers data to FactoryTalk-enabled applications via Live Data, which is the communication protocol used in the FactoryTalk suite of software products through FactoryTalk services.
