Summary
It is important to understand the current state of a building before undertaking any smart building project. Several recently released smart building assessment methodologies and programs have been introduced to help determine the building’s current level of smartness. It is also critical to understand what systems, connections, and integrations may already exist. This chapter provided an eight-category guide to identify, inventory, and record all the possible systems that exist in the building.
Now that we have developed methods for gathering smart building requirements, performing an assessment of how smart a building is, and inventorying current systems, the next chapter will focus on identifying and understanding the technology, services, and applications that will be required to make the building smart.
