Have you ever installed a Windows 2000 driver in Windows XP, or a Windows Vista driver in Windows 7, or a Windows 7 one in Windows 8? As you know, such a thing is not recommended by Microsoft! However, it might have helped you overcome a problem, right? Well, in Windows 10, things have changed radically in regard to device drivers. Windows 10 is not supporting the installation of device drivers designed for earlier versions of Windows. Thus, even if an unsigned driver might seem to work, you should avoid doing that, especially in a production environment. That being said, you should always go for digitally signed device drivers. In addition, Windows 10 does not allow you to install a 32-bit device in a Windows 10 64-bit architecture. Just as you cannot use a 64-bit device driver in a Windows 10 32-bit architecture.
