Predicates

A statement of sentiment may contain a predicate. A predicate is merely the object that has a relationship to the sentiment. Sometimes the predicate is the cause of the sentiment. On other occasions, the predicate is the result of the sentiment. Sometimes there may be no predicate at all. Consider the sentence “I am really mad.” There is no predicate in this sentence, yet it is definitely a statement of sentiment. Fig 5.3 depicts a statement of sentiment and a predicate.
