Turning a task recording document into a help topic


Once you have a task recording document, you can turn this into a help entry very quickly; you just need to cut and paste the task recording details into the help template.

In this recipe, we will show how to create procedural help documentation.

How to do it...

To convert a task recording into a help topic, follow these steps:

  1. Find the Dynamics Help template through the help system.

  2. When the template opens, click on the Save As option.

  3. Save the help template document to your publisher content folder, with a unique GUID as the document name.

  4. Change the title in the Word document, and on the Microsoft Dynamics Help ribbon bar, update the Title and Publisher ID, and set the Topic ID to match the GUID for the topic in the publisher table of contents' XML file.

  5. Copy the content from the document generated by Task Recorder into the help template file.

  6. Tidy up the detailed task description by removing sections that you are not interested in showing.
