Disk partitioning is dividing the hard disk into separate divisions. Once the disk is divided into partitions, an appropriate partitioning scheme can be selected depending on the type of data being stored.
Having a proper partition scheme brings many important benefits, let's explore some of them:
- Recovery is faster: It is easier to take regular backup of individual partitions instead of the entire hard disk drive, which might include unnecessary data.
- Performance: Each partition essentially has a filesystem. Having multiple partitions gives us the flexibility to choose which type of filesystem we want, and also we can tune the filesystem parameters depending on the type of data that will be stored in this partition.
