Generalizing a raster
In the raster dataset, a zone is a class of elements represented by one or more cells that are connected or disconnected and that have the same value. The LandUse
layer has zones or types of parcels, such as Arable
, Pasture
, Forest
, and so on.
The Arable
zone with the cell value 11
has a lot of disconnected areas or regions. A region is a group of connected cells having the same value. A zone is composed of one or more regions.
Getting ready
In this recipe, you will generalize the LandUse_2015
raster. The generalization process will change the values of the small-region areas to the values of the larger neighbor regions. The parcels with area below 625
meters square are not represented in a classic topographic map at scale 1:5,000
. On the sheet map, this polygon area means a square of 5
millimeters. The LandUse_2015
raster has a cell size of 0.5
meters. For this reason, you will dissolve the regions smaller than 50 x 50 = 2500 cells.
