We have used the elevator to get up to new levels of being a CIO and CISO. You must enjoy the journey along the way and consider the overall destination of where this elevator is taking you.

The elevator is a means to an end and not the end. Your own career and life are what this is all about. This journey can take you to some destinations that were never envisaged when you boarded on the ground floor.

The elevator can take you up and down. It sometimes moves slowly between levels and at other times it can travel quickly. When you decide to get off, then there are Open and Close door buttons that you can press. There is also an alarm button that you only use in emergencies when your elevator is not moving anywhere, and you want to get off. Like the elevator, your own career is a series of these movements between levels, which, over time, will form a portfolio of your experiences.
