Chapter 6. Voice Recognition
Audio and speech processing systems have become very common in the everyday lives of people, from film studios and portable music players to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems such as Skype. In this chapter, we look at how to use speech processing techniques and MATLAB/Simulink rapid prototyping to build a voice recognition system.
This chapter begins with an overview of digital audio signals before considering signal processing. Then we look at the general structure and workflow of voice recognition systems, which contains usually two parts: training and recognition. A section on feature extraction covers the audio feature extraction techniques, followed by a section on the training procedure and pattern analysis. The last section on recognition demonstrates the voice recognition system that determines which voice command the utterance of an unknown input voice is.
