Chapter 7. Memory Planning and Management
As with all computer systems, memory is one of the most precious resources in your Hyper-V Server cluster. Despite recent advances in capacity, memory is the first resource that you're likely to run out of. Careful planning and allocation of memory is the best way to maximize virtual machine density. Otherwise, you may find that restrictions imposed by insufficient memory will cause your other resources to be underutilized.
This chapter will aid you in properly planning your system's memory selections. It will guide you through:
- Understanding physical memory characteristics
- Hyper-V Server memory utilization
- Understanding virtual machine memory utilization
- Non-uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA)
- Deploying Dynamic Memory
- Configuring Smart Paging
