Configuring Windows Defender
Microsoft Defender Antivirus or Windows Defender is the available antivirus solution for Windows Server. It is enabled by default, but the service can be toggled on or off by adding or removing the server role in Server Manager, or with PowerShell. Windows Server supports other third-party antivirus solutions and Defender is designed to run congruently alongside them if you enable passive mode or disable the feature. In Windows Server 2022, you can use the Windows Security app to configure features of Windows Defender such as Virus & threat protection settings and other advanced settings. To enhance server protection and enable EDR capabilities, Defender Antivirus for servers and other third parties is designed to work with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
