Working with Templates
In the previous chapter, we learned how to define the page structure by using the Layout XML system. Just like riding a bike, it will take practice to fully utilize the power of this AC feature. I do recommend finishing all the practical exercises from Chapter 4 before you proceed further, as we will require this knowledge in this chapter and in the following chapters.
In this chapter, you will learn how to provide the HTML content for page elements and gain a final understanding of the page rendering process, the server-side part (as the Layout XML is just half of it), and templates (which make up the other half).
My focus will be on explaining the following topics:
- What are the templates, and how many template types are there?
- How do templates render child templates?
- Where can we find template files, and how to look for them?
- How are templates related to blocks?
- How do you find the correct template being used in a specified element...
