In this chapter, we went deeper into our exploration of Kotlin and its usefulness in the development of web-based platforms by implementing the backend of the Place Reviewer application. In addition, we learned how to set up a Spring Framework project that utilizes Spring MVC to create modern applications that follow the Model-View-Controller design pattern. Furthermore, we learned how to configure Spring Security to prevent unauthenticated access to Spring web applications. Lastly, we explored the ELK stack and looked at how it can be utilized to manage server logs.
In the next chapter, we will finish building the Place Reviewer application by implementing its frontend. In the process of the frontend implementation, we will learn about how we can build rich web applications with the Google Places API and how to test web applications built with Spring Framework.
