The Bluetooth SIG was formed in 1998 by five member companies: Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia, and Toshiba. By the end of 1998, they had 400 members in the organization. The charter of the organization is to advance the standards, forums, markets, and understanding of Bluetooth technologies.
