Exploring Mapbox maps
Mapbox is an open source library for maps. It is backed by a company with the same name that also provides additional services, layers, and themes to produce rich mapping applications. The options we will be using here can be used immediately with Plotly, but there are some other styles and services that require you to register for an account and use a token every time you generate a map.
An example should make it easy to start with, as we are already very familiar with scatter plots:
