Selecting a cost-effective solution
When deciding on what type of biometric system to select, we know that there are many details to consider. One of the factors is the cost of the system. Different biometric technologies can vary in price. Often, the price will depend on the required features, such as the following:
- Type of sensor: Such as optical, capacitive, or ultrasonic.
- Specific property: For example, weather-resistant nature or minimal energy requirements.
- Hardware: Some biometric modalities require more processing power for the best performance.
- Speed: This represents how fast the system can provide a match. A system that can provide results in 1-2 seconds will cost more than a system that takes 8-10 seconds.
- Manufacturer: Such as an established versus new vendor or a large or a small niche company.
