Planning considerations for Direct Routing
Enabling Direct Routing is one of the most flexible (albeit complex) integration options for Teams voice. It involves not only understanding the Teams ecosystem, but also the downstream infrastructure you are connecting to. This includes understanding the session border controller (SBC) that will bridge between Teams, your existing infrastructure, and the SIP provider.
The following are examples of SIP-based providers:
- An SIP-based PBX
- An SIP-based service provider that offers an SBC as a service
- A direct SIP trunking service
- An SIP gateway
- An analog telephone adapter
The information in this appendix has been indented to provide general guidance and recommendations for enabling Direct Routing.
