Modeling armor panels
We will now learn how to create armor panels to cover the exterior of the ship. We will use a new object and apply modifiers to it so that we can shape the armor panels. This will allow us to improve the appearance of the ship:
- Duplicate the top face at the back of the cockpit and separate it so that it’s a new object. We are going to use a Mirror modifier here, so delete one half of the face.
- Add a Solidify modifier and a Mirror modifier. In the Solidify modifier, set the thickness to 0.1m and check the Even Thickness checkbox.
- Extrude an edge from the side and pull it down to form an armor panel. Remember that you can slide a vertex by double-pressing G.
