Environments and regions
In the SAP BTP context, environment is an overloaded term. So, when we say it, we may mean two similar but different things. Let’s define the first one: at its foundation, SAP BTP provides frameworks, technologies, execution models, and tools for customers to develop and deploy applications that we refer to altogether as a runtime environment or, shortly, an environment.
SAP BTP has had an extensive evolution since it was first released. In this journey, SAP introduced different environments to provide platform services as well as runtimes for applications. As a result, there are four runtime environments in SAP BTP, as outlined here:
- Neo environment: This was the first and only environment when SAP BTP, then known as SAP Cloud Platform (SCP), was released originally.
