Rules and alerts
Create rules to move, flag, and respond to email messages automatically. Rules typically process your emails as they arrive in your Inbox. Some examples of rules you can create are as follows:
- Move email to a folder
- Play a sound
- Display a new item alert
- Set a flag
- Multiple steps combined
Creating rules
The steps to create a rule to apply to a selected email ID are as follows:
- Select a message that you would like to base the rule on. (Only select a message if you want the rule to be based on that type of message.)
- Click Home | Rules | Create Rule…. (This is also found on the right-click menu of a message.)
- In the Create Rule dialog box, check the boxes that you want to include in the rule. Notice that because I right-clicked on the message from Microsoft Edge, that option appears as From Microsoft Edge; I clicked the checkbox to select that...
