1. Server-based rules run on an Exchange server and apply to messages as they are delivered to your inbox. The rules cannot run until they have been completed on the server. If the rules can’t run on the server, they are applied once Outlook starts. Client-only rules are only run on your computer through Outlook and do not get processed through the server. Client-only rules can only run when Outlook is open, whereas server-based rules run on the server only.
2. If your rule contains server-based and client-based rules, the server-based rule must process before the client-only rule.
