Overriding the cluster automation level for a VM


In the previous recipe we learned how to set the cluster-wide automation levels.

In this section, we will learn how to set an automation level that is different from the DRS cluster automation level on a per VM basis. The cluster settings are overridden by creating VM Overrides.

How to do it…

The following procedure will help you configure a VM to override the cluster automation level:

  1. From the vCenter's inventory home navigate to the Hosts and Clusters view.

  2. Select the cluster and navigate to Manage | Settings | VM Overrides.

  3. On the VM Overrides page, click on the Add… button to bring-up the Add VM Overrides window.

  4. In the Add VM Overrides window, click on the green + icon to bring-up the Select a VM window.

  5. In the Select a VM window, select the virtual machine whose settings need to be overridden and click on OK. This should take you back to the Add VM Overrides window.

  6. In the Add VM Overrides window, you should now see the added VM. with the VM...
