Summary

In this chapter, we went through automation and reporting and how they can help organizations minimize the MTTA and MTTR.

We discussed one of the most important aspects of automation: deciding what steps in our incident investigation should be automated. Then, we moved on to hot topics when thinking about automation. We first discussed whether automation is a replacement for a SOC analyst or their best friend. After this, we moved on to looking at using input from SOC analysts and users and how we must be careful when utilizing these automation features.

From a reporting perspective, we spoke about creating an incident management solution by utilizing reports and making it more customized to our needs, and that spending time on these tasks makes sense.

In the last section, we went through TI and TVM in SOAR and how they can play a significant role in an investigation. TI and TVM can influence decision-making in tier 1, which was covered in Chapter 2, and directly impact...
