Zero-Trust Architecture (ZTA)
In recent years, Zero Trust has gained tremendous momentum, but it has also become a buzzword and marketing term for most security vendors. Taking a step back, the term “zero trust” was used as early as 1994 by Stephen Paul Marsh in his doctoral thesis. The first concepts of zero trust then became realized with the introduction of de-perimeterisation, which was introduced by Jericho Forum (now part of the Open Group). Before this introduction, an organization would protect everything at the perimeter with a much-simplified model. As this model became disrupted, and the need for data to travel outside of this secure perimeter arose, the concept of de-perimeterisation was born, and the need to protect data with additional levels of security controls was needed. The foundation of a Zero Trust model was then founded and popularized by John Kindervag while he was at Forrester Research Inc. back in 2009 (https://www.forrester.com/zero-trust/)...
