The DATA-INSIGHT-ACTION Cycle
In general, there is a pretty basic way of understanding how problems of any kind are solved:
- 1. DATA is collected and available
- 2. INSIGHT about the DATA is obtainable
- 3. ACTION is taken based on the INSIGHT
Not every problem is as simple to solve as learning to eat with a fork. The ramifications of messing up are small in that case. Going back to the old way of eating with one’s hands does not cause any obvious financial burden on one’s family, for instance.
For HR professionals, this becomes a little bit more challenging. You are dealing with compliance issues, reducing costs of benefits, hiring smarter and faster, and making sure your employees are getting paid the correct amounts. You know there are some key issues to resolve, like reducing turnover, or improving the company culture, but there aren’t obvious paths of success.
