Working with NAS backups – optimization and tuning
We have gone through adding file shares to Veeam Backup & Replication and also the process for setting up backup jobs. Now, we will look at the backup jobs created to work with them, including optimization and tuning.
When working with NAS backups, it is good to understand how the file share backup process works:
- When a backup session starts, Veeam Backup & Replication assigns a file proxy to process the file share information.
- The file proxy enumerates file and folder data, and a CRC tree is created.
- The file proxy transfers the CRC tree over to the cache repository.
- The cache repository saves the CRC tree.
- The file proxy now reads new data from the file share.
- The file proxy creates the backup data packages and transfers them to the target backup repository selected in the job.
- Veeam Backup & Replication checks files and if there was an archive repository configured in the backup...
