Creating a video-in-text effect
Sometimes placing text on top of an image can get a little too straightforward and boring. However, using colors for fonts is not the only way to go! Using blend modes in FCPX, we can make FCPX carve out an image based upon the title clip stacked along with the clip.
How to do it...
1. Move your playhead to the beginning of the clip where you want to create your video-in-text effect and connect a title effect of your choice to the clip with the shortcut Q. We've inserted Basic Title.
2. Trim the length of the title clip to match your clip length, as follows:
3. Customize the title to look exactly the way you want using the Inspector window.
You will likely want to make your text rather bold and/or large to make sure your audience will be able to discern the image within the text (which we'll do in a couple of steps). Don't worry about the color of the font. We will choose the Impact font at a font size of 426:
