Creating a custom animated title


FCPX has dozens of built-in animated titles that are flashy and easy to use, but fairly rigid in their customization options. A few you can barely manipulate at all with the exception of the content of the text. Although intimidating at first, the Custom title option lets you build your own text animation from scratch using more than a dozen possible parameters.

How to do it...

  1. 1. Open up your Titles browser and click on the Build In/Out category. Find the Custom title and add it to your storyline wherever you like.

    Skimming through the title clip at first doesn't seem all that interesting—it's simply the placeholder text, Title and is totally static.

  2. 2. Make sure the title clip is highlighted and open your Inspector (Command + 4). Ignore the Title tab for the moment and click on the Text tab.

  3. 3. Change the placeholder text to say what you like. Also, change any of the basic and style attributes while you're at it (Font, Size, Drop Shadow, and so on). We wrote...
