Roles within a project


The next key for project success is having the right people in the room. Most project teams have a project manager, sponsor, and cheerleaders.

Project manager

This individual has the responsibility of leading the team through the process of planning, implementing, and concluding the project. Good project managers wear many hats during the life of the project. If you're selecting someone to assume the role of project manager or considering taking on a project manager role yourself, here are some of the skills necessary for the job:

  • Team-builder: Good project managers are able to bring together a diverse group of people to complete the project. This doesn't mean there won't be a conflict. Conflict is natural, sometimes necessary, and often a healthy part of team development.
