Automatic execution of processes is the ideal, but BPM comes with loads of other advantages, some of them much easier to obtain. This section outlines some of these possibilities.
Business activity monitoring
Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) is the use of BPMN process representation to extract statistics about the sequence flows in instances of business processes, and, of course, to gain some insights into the activity represented by the process. The following are some examples of such statistics-based questions:
- Which tasks take the longest in the process?
- How much time does the process take on average?
- Does this average time vary in a regular time-related pattern? Are there seasons where the process is quicker/slower?
- What are the cycle time and lead time in the process?
- What changes in execution times have been associated with the deployment of a new version of the process?
- Has automation of a certain task indeed brought...
