Problem – iMovie won’t accept your video format
Right from the start of an iMovie project, you may encounter issues where iMovie won’t accept the files you’ve recorded, or won’t play them properly. There are some limits to the import process that may be the cause of these problems, but sometimes, iMovie can just be a bit awkward with the videos you’re trying to use. Firstly, let’s look at file types and limits in iMovie. iMovie expresses its disapproval of certain files in a couple of different ways:
- If you drag and drop the video in, a no entry symbol will show, and the video won’t appear in the timeline
- If you use the ⌘ + I menu to import a video, the video file will be grayed-out, and you won’t be able to select it
