Doing too much at once


Doing too much at once means you feel you have too many projects or tasks to handle. There is no objective number of tasks that any one person is able to handle. This is an entirely individual situation. You may be able to handle just one project at a time. Others can juggle six major projects. The key is that doing too much at once means that you feel you have too much for you to handle.

Possible causes

The biggest cause of doing too much at once is the inability to say no when new projects are offered to you or assigned to you. Of course you may not be able to say no easily or at all, especially if it's your boss or a major client asking you to do something. But you need to at least be able to assess when you will be able to finish what you are currently doing so you will be free to start a new project. Another cause of the "doing too much at once" syndrome is that you underestimate how long a particular project will take. Unwittingly, you stack up multiple projects...
