Background
In 2002, Microsoft and Martin Hale from the industry-based education company IT Masters approached Charles Sturt University (CSU) with the concept of building an industry-relevant master's degree. The target audience for the proposed master's was industry professionals who would study the degree online while working full-time, and the latest industry certifications would be an integral part of the master's.
The Master of Networking and Systems Administration was introduced in 2003 and the first of two cybersecurity masters' in 2006. In 2007, CSU became Australia's largest provider of master's degrees to Aussie IT Pros, and the latest enrollment figures show that the CSU has 115 percent more enrollments than the next largest university.
